Why Visit the Asian Side?

While most tourists stick to the European side, Istanbul's Asian side offers an authentic, less touristy experience. Kadıköy is a vibrant neighborhood with amazing food, great markets, and a local feel. Üsküdar has historic mosques and stunning Bosphorus views.

Getting to Kadıköy

Take a ferry from Eminönü or Karaköy — the 20-minute ride across the Bosphorus is itself a highlight. You can also use the Marmaray metro tunnel. Ferries run frequently and cost the standard IstanbulKart fare.

What to Do in Kadıköy

Explore the Kadıköy Market (Çarşı) for fresh produce, fish, cheese, and street food. Walk along Bahariye Street for shopping and cafes. Visit Moda neighborhood for hip cafes and a seaside promenade. Try the famous Çiya Sofrası restaurant for Anatolian cuisine.

Is the Asian side worth a visit?

Absolutely — especially if you want to experience how locals actually live in Istanbul. The ferry ride alone is worth the trip.

Kadikoy is where real Istanbul lives! The food market (Kadikoy Carsisi) is incredible - way better than anything on the tourist side. Take the ferry from Eminonu and spend a whole day exploring. Moda neighborhood has the best seaside walking path.

The Kadikoy food market is a foodie paradise. Try the fresh fish, olive varieties, cheese shops, and the famous Ciya Sofrasi restaurant. Prices are significantly lower than Sultanahmet or Taksim for much better quality.
