Types of Bosphorus Cruises

There are three main ways to cruise the Bosphorus: the public ferry (Şehir Hatları), short hop ferries, and private yacht tours. Each offers a different experience and price point.

Public Ferry (Best Value)

The Şehir Hatları full Bosphorus cruise departs from Eminönü at 10:35 AM. The round trip takes about 6 hours with a stop in Anadolu Kavağı. Tickets cost around 100 TL — an incredible value for a scenic cruise passing palaces, mosques, and the Bosphorus Bridge.

Private Yacht Tours

Private tours typically last 1.5–3 hours and cost 200–600 TL per person. They offer more commentary, drinks, and flexibility. Book through reputable agencies or your hotel.

Which Bosphorus cruise is best?

The public ferry is best for value and a full experience. Private tours are better if you are short on time or want a sunset cruise.

When is the best time for a Bosphorus cruise?

Late afternoon cruises offer the best light for photos, especially at sunset. Spring (April–May) and fall (September–October) have the most comfortable weather.

Take the public ferry from Eminonu! It costs only a few TL with your Istanbulkart vs 200-400 TL for private tours. The full Bosphorus cruise goes to Anadolu Kavagi and back - about 6 hours total. Pack snacks and enjoy.

The short cruise (2 hours) is good if you are short on time. But the full cruise is much better - you get to see both the European and Asian sides, pass under both bridges, and have lunch at the fishing village of Anadolu Kavagi.

Sit on the right side of the ferry going up for the best views of the European waterfront mansions. On the way back, switch to the left side. Sunset cruises are the most magical.
