Turkish Breakfast Culture
Serpme kahvaltı (spread breakfast) is the traditional Turkish breakfast — an enormous spread of small dishes served on a large table. It is a social event that can last 2–3 hours, especially on weekends. Turks take breakfast very seriously.
What is Included
A typical serpme kahvaltı includes: fresh bread, butter, honey (including kaymak — clotted cream with honey), multiple cheeses (beyaz peynir, kaşar, tulum), olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, eggs (menemen/scrambled, boiled, or fried), sucuklu yumurta (eggs with Turkish sausage), jams and preserves, pastries (börek, poğaça, simit), and unlimited çay (tea).

In Istanbul: Van Kahvaltı Evi in Cihangir, Çakmak Kahvaltı Salonu in Beşiktaş, and Namli Gurme in Karaköy. Most neighborhood kahvaltı salonu (breakfast restaurants) serve excellent spreads for 200–400 TL per person.
