10-Day Turkey Itinerary Overview

This classic itinerary covers Turkey's three must-visit destinations: Istanbul (4 days), Cappadocia (3 days), and Ephesus/Pamukkale (3 days). It is the perfect first-time visitor route that captures the best of Turkish history, culture, and natural beauty.

Days 1–4: Istanbul

Day 1: Sultanahmet — Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern. Day 2: Topkapi Palace, Grand Bazaar, Spice Bazaar. Day 3: Bosphorus cruise, Dolmabahçe Palace, Taksim/İstiklal. Day 4: Asian side (Kadıköy), Galata Tower, farewell dinner on a rooftop.

Days 5–7: Cappadocia

Day 5: Fly to Kayseri/Nevşehir, settle into cave hotel, sunset at Göreme viewpoint. Day 6: Hot air balloon at sunrise, Göreme Open Air Museum, Love Valley hike. Day 7: Underground city (Derinkuyu), Ihlara Valley, or ATV tour.

Days 8–10: Ephesus & Pamukkale

Day 8: Fly to İzmir, visit Ephesus ancient city. Day 9: Pamukkale travertines, Hierapolis, Cleopatra Pool. Day 10: Return to Istanbul or extend your trip to the coast.

What is the best time for this itinerary?

April–May and September–October offer the best weather, fewer crowds, and lower prices. Summer (June–August) is hot but lively.

We did Istanbul (4 days) - fly to Cappadocia (2 days) - fly to Izmir, bus to Ephesus/Pamukkale (2 days) - train back to Istanbul (2 days). It was the perfect pace. Do not try to squeeze in too much. Internal flights are cheap - book on Pegasus or Turkish Airlines.

I would swap one Istanbul day for a day trip to Gallipoli or Troy if you are a history buff. Or add the coast - Fethiye is worth the detour. Turkey has so much to see that 10 days barely scratches the surface. You will want to come back!

Budget-friendly version: take overnight buses instead of flights (they are comfortable with reclining seats and entertainment). You save on both transport and accommodation. Istanbul buses from the Otogar are reliable and cheap.
